<p>GPS navigation <span class="227410609-30092008">has become very popular</span>, and we have learned to appreciate <span class="227410609-30092008">the </span>help <span class="227410609-30092008">to </span>find <span class="227410609-30092008">our</span> way.</p>
<p><span class="227410609-30092008">A</span>lready many mobile phones with built-in GPS<span class="227410609-30092008"> </span>are <span class="227410609-30092008">being </span>sold, but neither mobile phones or car-<span class="227410609-30092008">n</span>avigat<span class="227410609-30092008">ors</span> is fit to be used outdoors.</p>
<p><span class="227410609-30092008">The e</span>lectronics are simply not reliable enough to cope <span class="227410609-30092008">with water &#8211; for </span>example rain.</p>
<p><img class="alignright" src="http://www.pcworld.dk/modules/davinci/getfile.php?id=25238&amp;width=250" alt="Garmin nüvi 500" width="250" height="167" /></p>
<p><strong>GPS for bike<span class="227410609-30092008"> cycle</span> people</strong><br />
But now there is help for the cyclists, who often <span class="227410609-30092008">drive the wrong way</span>. Garmin is launching a special version of their popular Nüvi series, which is intended for bike people. Popular said<span class="227410609-30092008">,</span> Garmin has taken <span class="227410609-30092008">the N</span>üvi and made it waterproof, and fitted it with the possibility of both topographical maps and nautical charts. In the Nüvi is a new 2009 European map from Navteq. As available accessories <span class="227410609-30092008">are </span>bike / scooter-<span class="227410609-30092008">fitting</span>, TMC, extra battery and bag.</p>
<p>The operation of the Nüvi 550 <span class="227410609-30092008">keeps </span>Garmin&#8217;s excellent user interface, where the operation is simple. GPS can be configured for use either by running, by walking, bik<span class="227410609-30092008">ing</span> or <span class="227410609-30092008">at </span>sea<span class="227410609-30092008"> &#8211; sailing</span>.</p>
<p><strong>No <span class="227410609-30092008">water freight</span></strong><br />
The ability to move <span class="227410609-30092008">the N</span>üvi between mountain bike, car and yacht require high levels of sustainability. Garmin already produces a range of outdoor products, and the new Nüvi 550 draws on experience from <span class="227410609-30092008">those</span>. Thus, the waterproof and meets IPX7 standard. This means that it is able to lie in the water for up to 30 minutes, without taking damage.</p>
<p>Unlike in the car, it is difficult to get <span class="227410609-30092008">your GPS </span>charged when bicycl<span class="227410609-30092008">ing</span>. Hence the greater demands on the battery. According Garmin itself, <span class="227410609-30092008">the </span>battery time on Nüvi 500-series <span class="227410609-30092008">is </span>up to four hours, which probably covers most exercise cycling needs.</p>
<p>Price: about $400.</p>
