A group of dedicated users have overtaken TomTom and other GPS manufacturers with a real GPS navigation for the Apple iPhone.
There are many things that are missing the oh-so-amazing iPhone, but one of those that really was a stone in the shoe, is the right navigation of the GPS part. Several have predicted TomTom as a producer for the iPhone, but still nothing happened.

It has got a bunch of enthusiasts to create their own navigation, called xGPS, there is even free. They have been voting on Google Maps so that you are guided to its destination, and thereby created a real GPS navigation. However, it can be somewhat expensive, jumping around on Google Maps when you are on the ground. The run is on your 3G connection that is not quite cheap in the long term. But it has xGPS come around by making it possible to cache your route in advance.

Unfortunately xGPS not all iPhone users. This requires that you jailbreaker your iPhone 3G. However, it may be relatively easy if you follow this guide. From there, just download the program xGPS from Cydia, and install it on your iPhone.
