Jenna places 6th in London Triathlon
--> Garmin-sponsored triathlete Jenna Shoemaker shares her training and racing experiences with the Garmin Edge 705 and Forerunner 405.
Last weekend I raced in the London Triathlon. It is one of the biggest triathlons in the world so it was a great atmosphere and, surprisingly enough, we had fantastic weather! The race is held at the Docklands and the ride takes you along the Thames to a spectacular turn around point right in front of Big Ben. Unfortunately, I didn’t have too much time to really take in the sites of London: the London Eye, the Tower of London and London Bridge, because we sped by them all quite quickly!
Unlike in Hamburg the weekend before, I had a really poor swim in London. I just could not find a rhythm and struggled the entire way. However, with a quick transition and a hard first 4k on the bike, I rode myself up to the front chase group. We managed to hold the gap to the leading 4 women, but because it was almost a minute, I made the decision to conserve my energy and prepare for a fast run. Over the 9.4km course, I posted a 33:53, a massive personal best and a good sign of where I will be when I finally put all the elements together. I finished the day in 6th place: another solid result for an average feeling day at the office and another great learning experience.
Now, I am back to work in Davos, Switzerland. I have less than a week here before I fly back to London to race in the London World Championship Series event in Hyde Park on Saturday, August 15. It will be my last European race before I head back to the USA. It has been a great summer with lots of hard training and I’m looking forward to taking my improved fitness back to some home country races.
