Swerv.side SEMA08 001 Last week, 12,000 top off-roaders invaded Moab, Utah, for the 44th annual Jeep Easter Safari. With storms in the forecast, it was comforting to know that parked at Jeep’s display was Garmin’s Severe Weather Emergency Response Vehicle (SWERV). Here’s how Chris Weiss from MotorCrave described the scene:

Underneath all the graphics and hardware is a Jeep Liberty turned “Severe Weather Emergency Response Vehicle”. If this thing couldn’t survive a natural disaster, the rest of us are simply doomed. It features an array of equipment including but not limited to two Garmin 5012 chart plotters, a Garmin GDL 30A weather module, Garmin GMR 18 Radar on a custom scissor lift, Garmin Street Pilot 7200, 2 Garmin Rino 530 HCx radios….

Personally, I’d be happy with just the rescue ax rigged to the roof and other rescue gear in back.

The Jeep NuKaiser, a pickup truck based on a Wrangler 4-door chassis, is equipped with the Garmin gps kids watchMAP 640 loaded with topo mapping. The Dodge Power Wagon is home to the first public viewing of the RHB navigation system. This system will launch on the all-new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Folks who have been able to climb into the truck (it sits on 44 inch tires) have raved about the system’s ease of use.
