Georeferenced charts for the gps kids watchMAP 695/696are available and more will be coming soon. Having georeferenced charts on your 696 means that you’ll see your aircraft’s position directly on the chart. Previously, you only saw the chart without the aircraft icon. Georeferenced charts will be available in two different ways: Garmin FliteCharts and ChartView powered by Jeppesen. Garmin FliteCharts are the approach plates currently published by Aeronav (formerly NACO) and encompasses over 15,000 U.S. charts. Updates are available every 28 days from Garmin and the new capability will be included with the regular update at no additional cost. We expect to have this capability available in the fourth quarter of this year. If you’d like to have your georeferenced charts today, you can get them via ChartView, which is an electronic version of Jeppesen’s worldwide library of JeppView charts and airport diagrams. Updates are available from Jeppesen every 14 days, and there is a one-time enablement fee in order to access these charts.
