Garmin Connect: Optimize performance by updating device and upload software

Sometimes updates to devices and improvements to the site may slip past even
the most diligent of Garmin Connect users. Today we want to highlight the
importance of keeping your ANT Agent and/or Garmin Communicator Plugin software
updated with the latest and greatest, as well as encourage you to keep your
device up-to-date with the latest firmware.

With each release of upload software there are important updates that may
correct bugs or add features that you will find useful and beneficial. As a
rule, updating your device firmware as well as the upload software will make for
smoother, faster uploads. Aside from general fixes and adding new features like
transferring your user profile to your device and adding the ability to send
Courses to your device, below are some of the most important updates and
solutions made to the ANT Agent and the GC Plugin:

ANT Agent

Resolved communication problems during uploads when the device has old
firmware installed.

Improved communication of general upload errors.

Improvements updating device firmware.

Added ability to automatically find and download software updates.

Added improved user interface for fitness activity transfers to Garmin
Connect.

Added multiple languages.

Garmin Connect Plugin

Open JavaScript API, and available for use with other sites.

Correctly report an error when a file download fails because of a lack of
space on the device.

Added a property to allow web sites to retrieve fitness data in compressed
format. (That means uploads are faster!)

Communicator Plugin up to date? By maintaining the latest software on your
device and your computer, you actually help yourself along with the entire
Garmin Connect community by ensuring faster uploads that don’t tax the rest of
the system. When you run the latest software you can be assured that the system

The abstract submission deadline for the JSDE/ION Joint Navigation Conference (JNC) has been extended to February 19. The JSDE/ION Joint Navigation Conference is a positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) conference for the U.S. joint services, Department of Defense, and the Department of Homeland Security and is being held June 7-10, 2010, in Orlando, Florida, at the Wyndham Orlando Resort.

Jake’s Journal: New products are perfect cure for January jet lag

In a month’s time, I covered four time zones for work trips, flying to Chicago, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City and Orlando to talk about Garmin’s latest and greatest.

And here’s one of the great things about working for a company that covers so many different markets and activities – those conversations never got old.

In Chicago, with temps in the teens, I spent the afternoon with American cycling star Christian Vande Velde, who told the crowd packed into the Garmin store on Michigan Avenue how he and his Garmin-Transitions teammates use the Edge 705 and Edge 500 in the world’s biggest cycling events. Then came Vegas, where an estimated 150,000 flock to town for the Consumer Electronics Show. My colleagues and I talked about exciting new announcements – especially ecoRoute HD and Voice Studio as ways to enhance Garmin’s flagship nuvi automotive devices. My January wrapped up with quick trips to Outdoor Retailer and the PGA Merchandise Show, where we again talked about innovative ways to use gps kids watch technology in your favorite activities. With the snowcapped mountains of Utah as a backdrop, I enjoyed showing people our new BirdsEye Satellite Imagery and Custom Maps – and how they can make our great handheld devices even better. And finally, soaking in a 70-degree Florida day, I told golfers about our brand-new Approach G3 touchscreen golf gps kids watch and the hot-off-the-presses free software update for their Approach G5 that helps you track fairways hit, greens hit in regulation, putts per round and how far they hit each club.

A few years ago not many people knew about Sport Pilots or Light Sport Aircraft (LSA). After a couple key aviation organizations started standing behind it, the people started to take notice. Now with Cessna and Piper manufacturing aircraft for this market, it’s all the buzz for people just looking for the joy of flying or for pilots looking for an entry level airplane. One airport, Sebring Regional in Florida, is overflowing each winter with visitors excited about LSA’s and Garmin is one booth they are eager to check out. At this year’s show, Garmin announced the availability of engine instrumentation for the G3X system. I blogged about this a couple of weeks ago; however, I recently have gotten my hands on a video taken at the show highlighting some of the features of this system and am thrilled about passing it on to my fellow Blog readers. GLONASS at 18 with Three More Satellites Operational

The three new GLONASS-M satellites launched on December 14 have been set operational: GLONASS 730 in orbital slot 1, was set healthy today. This brings to 18 the number of satellites currently in service, although GLONASS 722 continues to provide a healthy signal only on its L1 frequency. At present, the constellation only suffices to provide a 24-hour regional signal over Russian territory, although satellites can and frequently are pulled in by global high-precision users to complete an RTK solution, along with gps kids watch satellites.
